Patient Instructions

Please consult the following instructions before your procedure to ensure your procedure goes as smoothly as possible.

We look forward to helping you on your way to improved cardiovascular health. Please review the following information in detail as it contains pertinent information about your upcoming procedure. If the following steps are overlooked, the procedure may be rescheduled for your safety.

Week of procedure

In the week leading up to your procedure, please drink 2-3 liters of clear liquids the day prior to your procedure. If you are having bloodwork done, it must have been drawn within 7 days of your procedure. If you have bloodwork done and they require further attention, your physician’s office will notify you.

Day of your procedure

On the day of your procedure, please arrive at least 1 hour before your scheduled procedure time. Ensure you have nothing to eat or drink 6 hours prior to your procedure. Notify your physician if you have a shellfish or iodine allergy. Smoking is not allowed and consuming alcoholic beverages or illicit / illegal drugs is prohibited 24 hours prior to your procedure.

Please be sure to bring important documents, identification, as well as any medical devices you may need. Please also bring a current list of all medications you are taking, including pain medications.

What to wear

Wear loose, comfortable clothing and do not wear or bring jewelry or valuables. Do not wear nail polish on the day of the procedure. Expect to remove dentures, partials, contacts and body piercings.

Transportation

Getting to and from your procedure is important. Please make plans for a responsible adult to drive you home. No public transportation is allowed on the day of your procedure.

You must have someone drive you home after your procedure. You may not drive yourself. Someone must stay with you for the first 24 hours.

Medication instructions

Please follow these instructions carefully to ensure your safety during the procedure.

Medication instructions:

  • Diuretics
  • Monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOI’s)
  • Aspirin, Plavix, Brilinta, Effient should be stopped __ days prior to the procedure
  • NSAID’s, vitamins, supplements and herbals should be discontinued __ days prior
  • Coumadin (warfarin) should be stopped __ days prior
  • NOAC’s (Xarelto, Eliquis or Pradaxa) should be discontinued __ days prior

Diabetic patients

If you are diabetic, please follow these instructions carefully to ensure your safety during the procedure.

  • Type 1 diabetics should take 1/3 of usual AM long-acting insulin (e.g. Lente or NPH) the night before and/or morning of procedure.
  • Type 2 diabetics should hold diabetic pills the morning of and 48 hours after, and take up to ½ dose of long-acting or combination (70/30) on the day of the procedure.
  • Patients with an insulin pump should continue their basal rate only on the day of the procedure.

  • You must contact your physician’s office to cancel your procedure at least 24 hours in advance.
